About Me

Two years ago I quit my job of 20 years to remarry, move and become a "farm wife". For the most part, I am now a stay at home mom (with the exception of a few temp. odd jobs and sub teaching here and there).

As of the 2007 school year, we are now a homeschooling family.

We also farm. Our farms include a large garden, haying, horses, cows, geese, chickens, ducks, rabbits, 2 stocked ponds, small vinyard and an orchard.

We live at the main farm (the one with the animals) and our other farm is currently growing hay, nuts and firewood to harvest this fall.
In the spring we will be adding sheep, pigs and turkeys.

We have 5 daughters, (including 2 sets of twins) 3 who are still at home.

I love to camp, travel, garden, fish, bake, do needlework, sew, genelogy and ride horses. One of my favorite places to travel to is Northern Indiana (LaGrange county), where I have Amish cousins and to learn about my ancestors.

My goal is to help this family stay on track financially and to stay out of debt, other than our mortgage.

Bad news

I just talked to my mom, and she just found out her older sister has lung cancer. She is 84. She is having more test run, and we should get more information on Friday.

This is my moms only living sibling. My aunt has always been a very heavy smoker, the only smoker of the family. In fact, she is the first on this side of the family to even have cancer that I know of.

My girls are not taking this well--this great aunt of theirs is also their pen pal, and they like making her little treasures and crafts and send them to her.

So sorry to hear that. My mother died from lung cancer. Then I quit smoking.

Oh, sad for your family. Do you live far away? When my grandmother was dying was one of the times I was most grateful to be homeschooling my child. We were able to leave town and be with her, as a family should be. It felt so right to have my child there, instead of only pulling him out of school at the last minute to attend a funeral. It is more important attend to the dying person than the attend the dead body. If he'd been in school we could only have arranged permission for him to attend the dead body....Apologies if my thoughts strike you as strange right now. I remember that your kids are educated at home.

She is in AZ and we are in MO.
I talked to DH last night, and we are going to see if it is in the budget to take a trip down to see her soon. We are waiting to get the rest of her test results first (hopefully Friday) and then will make plans. We may make that our vacation this year. I think it would mainly just be our fuel there, as she has a house we could stay at.
