About Me:

In 2006 I quit my city job of 20+ years to remarry, move and become a "farm wife". For the most part, I am a stay at home mom.

As of the 2007 school year, we are a homeschooling family.

We also farm. Our farms include a large garden, haying, horses, cows, geese, chickens, ducks, pigs, rabbits, 2 stocked ponds, small vineyard and an orchard.

We live at the main farm (the one with the animals) and our other farm is currently growing hay, nuts and firewood to harvest this fall.
In the spring we will be adding sheep, and turkeys.

We have 5 daughters, (including 2 sets of twins) 3 who are still at home.

I love to camp, travel, garden, fish, bake, do needlework, sew, genealogy and ride horses. One of my favorite places to travel to is Northern Indiana (LaGrange county), where I have Amish cousins and to learn about my ancestors.

My goal is to help this family stay on track financially and to stay out of debt, other than our mortgage.

Gearing up for a busy week

This week I only worked (childsat) 2 days. Next week she needs me 5 days and possibly 6. The nice part is, I can watch them at my home if I need to be home for something. So next week unless it changes
M,T, TH and Fri 9-4. Wed 5am-8pm and possible 5am-8pm on Saturday.

Tomorrow I have to make an emergency trip back home--my renters have a bat in the house. My theory is either a fireplace cap has blown off or the dryer vent hose is off or has a hole. Hopefully it will be an easy fix either way. AND, hopefully the bat won't get me! How do I get the bat out once I find it is my question......animal control doesn't help on those types of calls, plus being Saturday they will be closed anyway. I HATE BATS. Just incase you wondered how I feel about them, you know now...

Now, the girls and I are off to see a homeschool musical that kids in our coop did. We saw a sample of it earlier this week, and it should be very very good.

Ooh, that's a tough one, especially since you aren't exactly fond of bats! I just looked some stuff up online and it doesn't sound fun for most people. ME? I'd love to do something like this!! I'd just grab a pair of heavy gloves, a net, and a bucket - all things I keep around the house cuz you "never know". Here's a neat trick that I use mostly to catch spiders, bugs, and once a chipmunk! Use an appropriate size container to trap the animal against the wall/floor/ceiling - any flat surface. Then you'll need a sturdy flat item like a piece of cardboard. While holding the bucket against the flat surface, slide the cardboard in between the bucket and surface. Voila! Instant trapped animal. Just take this outside and dispose as you feel comfortable. You should just be able to release the bat. Good luck!
