52 items for ebay

January 5th, 2013 at 01:33 am

This year, I am going to try and list at least one item a week on ebay. Money earned from my sales will go into our Ireland fund. DD#1 is getting married in Ireland either this year or next, the wedding date has not been set yet as she is hoping to get a job transfer there.

Also, all money from our change jar is going into the Ireland fund, along with half my sometimes babysitting money.

I took the change jar in yesterday (was past time, usually fills up 3-4 times a year and the lid would not fit on it) and it came out to $148.97. Then, in the bank parking lot I found another quarter to add to the new jar starting.

Not sure how to "store" the money, so for now I guess it will just go into a money market account that I rarely use.

So, my first item is on ebay now. For some reason, it only let me list it as a 3 day auction, but didn't charge me any fees. So, if it doesn't sell, I will relist it as 10 day one.

I like the idea of listing one thing a week, might have to add that to the 52 week challenge but I'm not sure if I had 52 things to sell but we will see. I currently have two things listed and one has a bid.

Nice plan! I have saved my Christmas money in our regular checking account. I simply keep track separately and deduct from the balance in the account to know what is actually available. I will be on ebay tomorrow hopefully getting a couple things listed.

But if you sell a lot of small stuff, doesn't the cost of postage eat into your earnings?

no--they buyer pays the shipping on ebay, just as they would ordering from any company. I charge actual postage, plus 50 cents. The 50 is to help offset my running into town to mail it (I live in the middle of nowhere). I usually try to list severa auctions at a time, so that I can combine post office trips.

I think that makes a lot of sense, and I hope that your sales lead to a huge chunk of that Ireland trip being paid! One item per week will offer you some insurance of regular income into that fund, too, which will make a difference... good luck!
