DD#3 got accepted

May 23rd, 2008 at 04:01 pm

to a nearby college for summer science camp next month. It is for 7th and 8th grade girls, and they only take 40, so she was very excited that she was picked. She had to write some science essays to get in.

I was told by one of the science camp workers that she is one of the youngest, if not the youngest to have ever been accepted to the camp in its history. She met all the qualifications, tested and wrote for it just like the older girls however. They were also impressed that she is homeschooled.

I am finding it a little easier to type now that the stitches in my hand are out, but it still hurts. I've not seen the hospital bill yet, but should only be $75. The dr told me to color and that really hurts--the stitches were across the knuckles and it doesnt want to stretch to hold the crayon.

Wow, she was 1 of 4? That's great!
Good for her studying science. It's so fascinating!

    Typo-glad you said that-I fixed it-40 not 4. 217 applied and they take 40.
She loves science. We went thru the entire 6th grade science book the first month of homeschooling, then she went thru next years science book.
A good part of her science now she gets from TV-she likes to watch the NASA station and the various discovery channels. She also does a lot of experiments here at home.

Ah, ok! 1 in 40 is still not bad either!
I majored in biology and math in college. I'd rather work with numbers and enjoy biology as a hobby though.

Right now we are into weather. We have been taking the NOAA storm spotter classes and are setting up our own outside weather station including windsock, thermometer, and instruments to measure wind speed & directions, a hail pad and more. We also phone in to the local NOAA office cloud formations and rain levels and hail size. After we master this, we plan to work on our ham radio skills, get licensed and then we can be radio spotters instead of telephone ones.

can you use kid crayons, the big kind? Also, you can make crayons (melt and put into muffin molds.)

    Congrats to your daughter!
