About Me:

In 2006 I quit my city job of 20+ years to remarry, move and become a "farm wife". For the most part, I am a stay at home mom.

As of the 2007 school year, we are a homeschooling family.

We also farm. Our farms include a large garden, haying, horses, cows, geese, chickens, ducks, pigs, rabbits, 2 stocked ponds, small vineyard and an orchard.

We live at the main farm (the one with the animals) and our other farm is currently growing hay, nuts and firewood to harvest this fall.
In the spring we will be adding sheep, and turkeys.

We have 5 daughters, (including 2 sets of twins) 3 who are still at home.

I love to camp, travel, garden, fish, bake, do needlework, sew, genealogy and ride horses. One of my favorite places to travel to is Northern Indiana (LaGrange county), where I have Amish cousins and to learn about my ancestors.

My goal is to help this family stay on track financially and to stay out of debt, other than our mortgage.

They are grounded

The chickens that is. I caught them in the garden last night, so today, they are grounded to their coup and their small fenced in area.

I will keep them grounded until we get another round of beans and okra picked, which should be today or tomorrow. It looks like it could rain.

Today was going to be a NS day, but I am heading to the little store here shortly. DH broke BOTH shoe laces on his tennis shoes, and they are black. All we have here are white ones, so off I go. Sopunds like a simple thing to find, but not in this little town.

If you will clip the feathers on their wings, the chickens will be unable to fly into the garden and will stay in their chicken yard. Hope this helps!

We decided not to clip their wings so they can escape when need be. Until recently we had neighbors a mile down whos dogs dined on a few of our hens. Usually they would get one, while the others would fly off. We also have lots of fox, coyotes, coons, badgers, owls, snakes (snakes have been our most recent enemy) and bobcats.
