starting this years garden

February 1st, 2014 at 09:54 pm

Even though we are in the midst of a major snow and ice storm, I have begun my 201 garden. So far, I have started my garlic and onions, inside my mini-greenhouse in a south window. Next I will start my asparagus. I've wanted an asparagus bed for some time, and since it takes 3 years to establish one, I figured I better get going now...

I still have over 1000 cans and jars in the basement pantry from last years garden. All I will need this year is some more canning flats.

Ooo, I never fail to get excited about the upcoming garden. I started sweet peppers and --a new one-- goji berries. Yep, south window. Good luck and good production in the garden this year! Smile

Starting your garden probably keeps you hopeful for spring.

I look forward to the day I live somewhere I can make a garden - grow asparagus, etc. Smile

Joan, where'd you get the goji berries? What do they taste like?

MFM, do you use heat pads and special lite bulbs?

PatientSaver, I used to use both, but not now. I set up a mini green house in my dining room and it has the perfect set up. Windows are on the south and I have it positioned halfway over the floor heat register.

Pat.Saver, I bought goji berries at my grocery store, produce section, dried in a little bag. They have a lightly sweet, sort of woody-nutty taste. They are pale red and chewy. However they were from a country whose exports I avoid. Dried fruits are sometimes treated with needless sulfur, too, but I did not trust the packaging to say so. But I do not mind growing the plants from seeds I would not eat. So I stuck them in the freezer in mid October, took them out in late January. Sprouted them on a wet paper towel covered in a plastic bag. They were fast--less than a week....Mom-from-Missouri, thanks for the indulgence here to answer that question.

Hey, I can help with your forum question about finding an address. Forum wouldn't let me post my email address, though. Can you reach me by replying to this comment?
